SEO and Magento

Magento is an open source ecommerce platform that was build with SEO in mind. A “vanilla” implementation of Magento usually ranks better than many other sites already. However in order to optimize it to it’s fullest SEO potential you need to make sure you have all the SEO related settings right.

Below is a checklist of items that you should validate and potentially adjust within your Magento store:

  • Enable the canonical meta tags in Magento
  • Enable SEO friendly URLs in Magento
  • Remove the session id from the URL
  • Remove the store id from the URL
  • Update the HTML Header settings
  • Create Meta Tags
  • Generate Google Sitemaps for indexing
  • Setup the robots.txt file
  • Setup Google Analytics for tracking
